We’re looking for an empathetic, creative web designer to design and develop beautiful things for the web.
Clean, intuitive and delightful interfaces aren’t common in banking. At Monzo, we are building the best bank account in the world: fair, transparent and a pleasure to use. Our web presence should reflect this too, standing out a mile from everyone else. As Monzo grows, the quality and consistency of our web presence becomes even more important, and you will be heavily involved in ensuring every visitor and user can understand and discover our product.
You’ll spend your time designing and coding front-end layouts so that Monzo’s web presence is as delightful as our apps.
Projects we'd like you to work on:
- designing and implementing a framework that can be used for all Monzo web projects
- the public-facing side of our website – from the world’s best careers page through to ensuring our terms and conditions are clear and simple
- designing and coding beautiful email templates, so that every interaction with our users is delightful and clear
- a web portal for our users, so that they can undertake basic interactions with their Monzo account even when they can’t access the app (e.g. freezing their card, contacting our customer support team)
- powerful yet easy to use interfaces for our internal tools
You’ll get plenty of mentorship and opportunities to learn from more experienced designers and developers - we’re especially keen to help you master designing and building systems and modular layouts. As the fourth person to join our design team, you’ll contribute to decision-making and work closely with our Head of Design in shaping the design of Monzo. You’ll ensure our design principles and guidelines are perfectly adapted to web projects, and you’ll have opportunities to influence every aspect of design at Monzo.
You’ll also work very closely with full-stack developers in our operations and product engineering teams to make sure everything is hooked up behind the scenes.
You should apply if:
- you understand that good design is not about trends but is built on top of principles and tradeoffs. You make well-reasoned design decisions.
- you love making beautiful visuals but it’s not what drives you. What drives you is delivering great experiences and solving problems.
- you’re passionate about inclusive design and accessibility, and you'll design with all our users in mind (not just the ones that look like our team).
- you have built a couple small websites in HTML and CSS with some JavaScript, and you’re interested in further developing your coding skills.
- you’re patient; interested in edge cases and idiosyncratic bugs.
This role would be ideal for someone who has a good grounding in design and software development, and wants to become a better designer, a better engineer, or both.
We’re keen to ensure we’re designing a bank that works for everyone, so are particularly interested in applications from people of colour, women, and other underrepresented demographics.
